Singing Bowls and Tuning Forks: A Hands-On Introduction to Sound Healing
Andy is a therapist in private practice (licensed clinical social worker), personal coach, and tarot card reader. He also works with adults diagnosed with serious mental illnesses at East Mental Health in Roanoke, VA, where he is the director of clinical education.
In addition, Andy is an adjunct faculty member at Hollins University, in the Gender and Women's Studies Department, where he has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses.
Since 2001 Andy has been using sound as a therapeutic tool with individuals and groups. Besides hand-drums and percussion instruments, Andy also uses crystal and Tibetan singing bowls for healing. As a singing bowl sound bath facilitator, Andy has worked with groups such as Alzheimers patients, substance abusers, the seriously mentally ill, college students, and the general public. Andy has training in Acutonics, a system of vibrational healing that uses tuning forks on acupressure points.

Playing and listening to singing bowls and tuning forks can reduce stress and anxiety, strengthen the immune system, balance the chakras, release energetic blockages, diminish pain, allow access to the body’s inner wisdom, stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself, and create a deeply meditative state.

Introduction to Energy Meridians and the Five Elements
Deann Bishop, Licensed Acupuncturist, is certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine. She holds a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College, and NCCAOM certification as Diplomate in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology. She is trained in Tuina (Chinese Medical Massage), Shiatsu and is a student trainee of the Hakomi Method. She also is a Kadampa Buddhist meditation teacher and has studied within this tradition for 15 years. Deann has owned and operated her private Chinese Medicine practice in Troutville Virginia for over a decade.

This workshop will give an overview on the energy meridians from the perspective of their elemental manifestations, both physically and emotionally. Used for centuries within Traditional Chinese Medicine methods such as acupuncture and chinese medical massage, this profound and practical information can supplement and support bodyworkers and other energy healers in their work.
The second section will include a hands-on session which will help us locate the meridians and various key acupressure points with discussion on how they can be integrated into a healing sessions.
